Free exhibition, open to the public every Thursday and Friday between 12-6pm.

A quick notice: we'll be closed on Tuesday 29th November, Wednesday 30th, Thursday 1st December and Friday 2nd, for a private event.

This means our amazing "Picture This!" exhibition won't be accessible on Thursday and Friday that week, and there'll be no tours or public access.

We're open as normal on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th November, and we'll be back open from Thursday 8th December.

CURATED BY DAN DE LA MOTTE, WITH ASSOCIATE CURATION FROM ANDREW LUMSDEN & GRAHAM MCKERROW.

In the 1970s and 1980s Britain’s leading gay press was Gay News and Capital Gay. These papers reported on the pressing issues of the day, from police raids and entrapment, to the HIV/AIDS crisis and Section 28. Despite the severity and urgency of these topics, both papers employed cartoons and cartoonists to display a humanity and warmth that sometimes columns of words cannot convey. David Shenton and Kate Charlesworth’s works are at times poignant and angry, and at other times mischievous and playful. They encapsulate the queer identity perfectly; on how to be resilient and survive, but how to be silly and impish also.

This free exhibition focusses on major news stories that the artists have illustrated, as well as more general themes around gay and lesbian identity and community.

There will be accompanying events listed on Outsavvy.
