Dr Jenny Littlewood: more on the artist behind our wonderful bust of Mary

We are so thankful to Jenny for allowing us to host her wonderful sculpture to Mary in the Mary Wollstonecraft room in Newington Green Meeting House. We are hoping to re-open in the New Year so you can visit and see our new acquisition and learn more about Mary’s time at the Meeting House but until then, there will be an online tour of the room with the bust coming soon!

Her first public sculpture was for a competition ran by Tate Britain in the 1970’s:

And this wonderful photograph shows Jenny and her next project. A bust of Eric Williams, late Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago in late 70’s.

Jenny’s work includes very tender pieces to some named women also;

And not all her sculpture takes the form of busts, as we see here in this very moving depiction of a baby entitled ‘sleeping’:

Then latterly, Mary Wollstonecraft – who is displayed temporarily in the RSA, and a permanent sculpture in The Meeting House, Newington Green.

Words from the artist herself: ‘I have been a leader and a volunteer for my local community for many years, establishing a ‘green corridor’ by strategic developments in biodiversity (planting over 60 native trees, promoting planting and ponds, creating gardening clubs and wildlife forum, helping to ensure the first Passivhaus community centre built in the UK). I support the Islington Sustainability Forum’ – Jenny was also the Chair of the Newington Green Action Group until 2015 and is a supporter of New Unity.
